Congratulations Erin & Geoff!
Erin & Geoff were married on the beautiful lawn of Collingwood Library, overlooking the Potomac River. Collingwood, located in Alexandria near River Farm, is an exceptional historic library that's maintained by the National Sojourners. The mansion, circa 1785, is just as gorgeous as you can imagine -- pristine white plaster against the dark forest that surrounds it.
Their ceremony included a 200-yard walk (yes, that's 2 football fields), but it made for quite a processional for the bride! The tricky part was getting the bridesmaids down the steep hill in their heels while holding bouquets and their skirts. Luckily all of them made it :) Erin & Geoff exchanged vows in front of the river, incorporating a reading by the groom's sister and a solo sung by the bride's aunt. They then recessed back up the hill to their tent, where they held a lovely reception.
The reception was magnificently catered by R&R Catering. Guests enjoyed a DJ from Black Tie DJs and a cake from the Upper Crust Wedding Cakes. I honestly do eat a lot of leftover wedding cake, but I have to admit that Elizabeth's cakes are among the best I've had! Quite moist, flavorful, and the frosting was not sugary sweet at all. Just how I like it. If you're still looking for a cake, check out her website.
Our only snag unfortunately came with Alexandria's DASH bus which was supposed to shuttle guests back and forth from the hotel. Despite our confirmations the week of the wedding, the bus unfortunately pulled up 45 minutes late and the bride and groom had the sparkler sendoff they had been waiting for. As always, R&R Catering is simply awesome -- they kept the bar open the whole time!
Overall, the wedding went just as planned. The bride and groom were happy the entire night, the mother of the bride was able to relax and enjoy the evening, and the guests had a great time between the bar and the dancefloor. Happy people make for a great wedding, and that's just what Erin & Geoff got on their special day!
It was a pleasure working with this fantastic couple and we're glad we were able to be a part of their wedding!
