Sexy Brides?

Ryan came across an article in the New York Times and I thought it was interesting enough to share. It describes the trend of more and more brides wearing sexy little numbers down the aisle despite the traditional consensus that a bride should look conservative. One bride is quoted,
“For my generation, looking like a virgin when you marry is completely unappealing, boring even,” she said. “Who cares about that part anymore?”"

Check out the full article here. What do you think? Should brides maintain some classy dignity or va va voom their way to the altar? Does it even matter anymore?

  • Interesting post Laura. If brides want to "va va voom" their way to the altar, so be it! It's her wedding and I feel she can do as she pleases, especially when it comes to the dress. Just my 2 cents :)

  • I always laugh because here in France, it seems that brides typically want to be "sexy bride", where in the US, they typically want to be princesses.

  • As long as it doesn't throw your 94-year-old grandmother into a swoon, i say go for it. Not my cup of tea, but who am i to judge what other brides want to wear? (My kelly-green wedding sandals tell me not to throw stones :-)

  • I think it's sexy. And romantic. The bride should dress in a way that best fits her (ha ha no pun intended). Whether it's sexy, romantic, or covered with tradition, I don't see a problem in having a choice. However, if you're marrying in the Catholic Church, they might have a problem with it being too revealing...for example, for our wedding, we had to purchase each of our bridesmaids shawls to "cover their shoulders", because "showing that much skin is not appropriate in the Church". They weren't naked...no, they wore long black strapless dresses. So basically, my poor girls had to looks like nuns during the ceremony...lol. But fear not, when it came time for the reception, those shawls were gone and they had NO problem "showing some skin"! lol Anyhow, great post, thanks for sharing!
