Ring 'assertives'?

Soiree was recently interviewed by WUSA9's Jennifer Ryan about a new phenomenon called "ring assertives." Apparently there are some crazy women out there buying their own engagement rings, then sending their new fiance the tab. Of course the trend isn't too far-fetched, but I'm a little surprised it's becoming so mainstream so quickly.
